Missouri Woman With ALS Issues Ice Bucket Challenge

Kansas City Star

By Lisa Gutierrez

Last week Candice Black added her voice to a list of people summoning country star Miranda Lambert to take the ALS ice bucket challenge.

Then just days later Black, a lifelong country fan who has ALS, was receiving hugs from her country idol.

On Friday, Black’s Crossroads Hospice care team at Riverbend Heights in Lexington, Mo. helped her make a video for Lambert, dumping buckets of ice water on their own heads.

Lambert had already been challenged by some of her fellow country stars and met all those dares over the weekend.

On Sunday Lambert came to the Kansas City area for a concert at Cricket Wireless Amphitheater.

Black attended the show through Crossroads’ Gift of a Day program, where hospice patients describe a “perfect day” and staff and volunteers create it for them.

Black arrived at the concert in red-carpet style in a limo, with free tickets from Lambert’s people. After the show she got to meet Lambert, thanks to Kansas City country radio station Q104.

The Facebook video of Lambert getting ice water dumped over her head has been shared more than 5,000 times since Saturday.

Other women of country who have answered the call include Jennifer Nettles, Reba McEntire and Carrie Underwood.
