Patient’s Gift of a Day Lifts Off Over Hometown
Tyrone Wright has spent his life in Kansas City. He grew up there, becoming familiar with each historic institution and new high rise as the city evolved. But there was always one perspective of his hometown he was never able to see.
When the 52-year-old hospice patient was asked how he wanted to spend his perfect day through Crossroads’ Gift of a Day program, he decided it was time to get the ultimate view of the city that raised him. He opted for a helicopter flight over his beloved Johnson County.
To make Wright’s perfect day possible, Crossroads staff reached out to KC Copter in Olathe, KS to organize the flight of a lifetime. They agreed to provide a pilot and helicopter for the afternoon. When Wright arrived at the airfield, he was greeted by owner Johnny Rowland, who flies Channel 9 KMBC’s traffic and storm-chasing chopper. Before Rowland secured Wright into his flight seat, the pair put on KC Copter souvenir hats and posed for photos.
On this flight to remember, Wright was given a whole new perspective.
