Summer Safety Tips for Seniors

Summer is a time for trips to the beach, picnics and other fun outdoor activities. But summer’s heat can also be a danger to seniors. Over 70% of heat deaths are adults age 50 and older, according to the National Weather Service.

As we age, we lose our ability to naturally adjust to the heat. Seniors will often feel a chill on even the hottest of days. Seniors also lose their sense of thirst and many perspire less, losing our natural way to regulate body temperature. Because of this, it is important for seniors and those who love them to follow these summer safety tips:
