Gifts for Those in Assisted Living
Navigating the transition to assisted living is a significant chapter in many lives, filled with both adjustments and opportunities for new connections. One way to make this transition smoother and more uplifting is through thoughtful and meaningful gifts for those in assisted living. Whether it's a close friend, a family member, or a cherished neighbor settling into assisted living, choosing gifts that combine practicality with a touch of personal warmth can bring joy and comfort to their new living space.
Even if your loved one has been living in assisted living for awhile, it’s helpful to choose gifts that will enhance their lives without adding a lot of clutter to their living space. We have put together a list of a few ideas for gifts for those in assisted living.
Electric Kettle
When your loved one is in assisted living, they may not have easy access to a cooking space. An electric kettle allows them to heat water to make tea, coffee, or cocoa in their room. Choose a kettle that is plastic or stainless steel that won’t break if dropped.
Heating Pad
A neck and shoulder heating pad will envelop your loved one in comforting warmth on even the chilliest days. Select a heating pad that offers several different settings for temperature and an automatic shutoff after a certain amount of time.
Restaurant Sweater
Whether your loved one is eating in a communal dining room or heading out for a meal with family or friends, a cozy sweater, wrap, or cardigan can help them stay warm regardless of the temperature in the room. They are an excellent way to wrap your loved one in a hug even when you can’t be with them.
Digital Clock
You can never have too many clocks. A large display clock that includes the time, date, and day of the week can help keep your loved one oriented and on time. It’s a thoughtful gift for a loved one in assisted living who may find it easier to read than small digital alarm clocks.
Gift Card for Facility Services
Many assisted living facilities and senior living communities include salons, barbershops, gift shops, and cafes. While residents appreciate the convenience of these amenities, these services may not be included in the resident’s room and board. If this is the case, a gift certificate for these facility services can be a caring gift for someone in assisted living. Speak to staff at your loved one’s facility about gift certificate options.
