Gift of a Day

We develop unique plans of care that include a Gift of a Day, our special program inspired by author Jim Stovall’s popular book “The Ultimate Gift.” Since its inception, we have helped thousands of hospice patients experience the perfect day. That day is based on the question: “If you had one perfect day, what would it look like?” Our staff members, volunteers and local businesses work together to bring these perfect days to life for our hospice patients.

A Retired Violinist Remembers the Music

Growing up in a very musical family, some of Eugene Armocida’s fondest childhood memories are of playing music with his father, a professional cellist, and his siblings, a brother who played the piano and published songs in the 1940s and his sister who attended Julliard in the 1950s.

Eugene discovered his own musical talent at a young age when he began studying the violin. But as an adult, Eugene lost touch with music for many years until his granddaughter encouraged him to begin playing the violin again in the late 1990s.

That led to a 20-year retirement career playing violin for the Pittsburg Civic Orchestra. Now 94 years old and retired, Eugene still considers the violin his greatest passion.

For his Gift of a Day, Eugene’s Crossroads in St. Louis care team arranged for Eugene to see a concert with his family where renowned violinist Asako Kuboki performed. While he is no longer physically able to play the violin, Eugene’s love for listening to classical violin music remains as strong as ever.
